Post-Election Healing: Standing in the Wake of the Lying Prophets

But any prophet who falsely claims to speak in my name or who speaks in the name of another god must die.’ “But you may wonder, ‘How will we know whether or not a prophecy is from the Lord ?’ If the prophet speaks in the Lord’s name but his prediction does not happen or come true, you will know that the Lord did not give that message. That prophet has spoken without my authority and need not be feared.
-- Deuteronomy 18:20‭-‬22 NLT

I'm not a political person, but I can't help but recognize what's happening in the United States as the Supreme Court has just rejected a massive case trying to turn over millions of votes in four states to try and win the 2020 Presidential Election. What happens is what happens, but what concerns me the most is what I spoke about in a previous blog post. Many, many "major" and "minor" prophets have declared that Donald Trump would be reelected. They have been on TV, YouTube, Facebook, Parler, and many other mediums calling millions to pray and believe in an outcome that has now been shown to be untrue. So what do we do to heal the Body of Christ?

Let's first look at the background... The Bible has many scriptures that warn us about false prophets who would lead people astray. 1 John 4:1 directs us to test the spirits to see if they are of God. Sharpening our discernment and digging deep into the Word of God helps us recognize a lying prophet as quickly as possible. Here are some verses to consider:

But there were also false prophets among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you. They will secretly introduce destructive heresies, even denying the sovereign Lord who bought them—bringing swift destruction on themselves. -- 2 Peter 2:1

In their greed, these teachers will exploit you with fabricated stories. Their condemnation has long been hanging over them, and their destruction has not been sleeping. -- 2 Peter 2:3

Her prophets whitewash these deeds for them by false visions and lying divinations. They say, ‘This is what the Sovereign LORD says’—when the LORD has not spoken. -- Ezekiel 22:28

For false messiahs and false prophets will appear and perform signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, even the elect. -- Mark 13:22

Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves. -- Matthew 7:15

Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. -- Matthew 7:21

And many false prophets will appear and deceive many people. -- Matthew 24:11

For false messiahs and false prophets will appear and perform great signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, even the elect. -- Matthew 24:24

But the beast was captured and with it the false prophet who had performed the signs on its behalf. With these signs he had deluded those who had received the mark of the beast and worshiped its image. The two of them were thrown alive into the fiery lake of burning sulfur. -- Revelation 19:20

And the devil, who deceived them, was thrown into the lake of burning sulfur, where the beast and the false prophet had been thrown. They will be tormented day and night forever and ever. -- Revelation 20:10

Then the LORD said to me, “The prophets are prophesying lies in my name. I have not sent them or appointed them or spoken to them. They are prophesying to you false visions, divinations, idolatries, and the delusions of their own minds. -- Jeremiah 14:14

This is what the LORD Almighty says: “Do not listen to what the prophets are prophesying to you; they fill you with false hopes. They speak visions from their own minds, not from the mouth of the LORD. -- Jeremiah 23:16

Woe to you when everyone speaks well of you, for that is how their ancestors treated the false prophets. -- Luke 6:26

I urge you, brothers and sisters, to watch out for those who cause divisions and put obstacles in your way that are contrary to the teaching you have learned. Keep away from them. For such people are not serving our Lord Christ, but their own appetites. By smooth talk and flattery they deceive the minds of naive people. -- Romans 16:17-18

A horrible and shocking thing has happened in the land: The prophets prophesy lies, the priests rule by their own authority, and my people love it this way. But what will you do in the end? -- Jeremiah 5:30-31

For the time will come when people will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear. They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths. -- 2 Timothy 4:3-4

For such people are false apostles, deceitful workers, masquerading as apostles of Christ. And no wonder, for Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light. It is not surprising, then, if his servants also masquerade as servants of righteousness. Their end will be what their actions deserve. -- 2 Corinthians 11:13-15

He replied, “Isaiah was right when he prophesied about you hypocrites; as it is written: “ ‘These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me. They worship me in vain; their teachings are merely human rules.’ You have let go of the commands of God and are holding on to human traditions.” And he continued, “You have a fine way of setting aside the commands of God in order to observe your own traditions! -- Mark 7:6-9

Dear friends, do not believe every spirit but test the spirits to see whether they are from God because many false prophets have gone out into the world. This is how you can recognize the Spirit of God: Every spirit that acknowledges that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God, but every spirit that does not acknowledge Jesus is not from God. This is the spirit of the antichrist, which you have heard is coming and even now is already in the world. You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world. They are from the world and therefore speak from the viewpoint of the world, and the world listens to them. We are from God, and whoever knows God listens to us; but whoever is not from God does not listen to us. This is how we recognize the Spirit of truth and the spirit of falsehood. -- 1 John 4:1-6

The question remains... What do we do to those who were lead astray by these lying prophets? I believe that instead of mocking them for following someone who prices to be a list we should reach out to them in love. I've read comments on various social media by people who literally are losing hope. They don't believe that prayer does anything. They are being told by these charlatans that they didn't have enough faith or that they didn't give enough money sowing seeds. This is unfortunate.

We, those who are called by God need to step in and embrace those who followed a lying tongue and love them. Show them that they may have been misled, but God is still just and true. We need to teach them that just because they have a mic, a platform, a following and have been correct by what seems supernatural doesn't mean that they are connected to God. God has allowed them to speak lies like in the days of Micaiah in 2 Chronicles 18:9-22. This exposing was necessary to show Christians what is real and what is not.

Personally, I am a firm believer in prophets and prophecy. IT IS REAL. True prophets do speak today and they are relevant according to scripture. The problem today is that some people who have gifts of prophecy from God or from the Devil (yes, he has spiritual gifts too) are using them for personal gain or power and that's just plain wrong. People are getting hurt because of a prophe-lying mouthpiece and driving them from the Church. This has to stop. We need to truly pray for those who were hurt and do something to show them love and reclaim them from the blinding scheme of the Enemy. A rebuke will cause more pain and more loss in faith. No, let's all open our arms and hearts for those who were lied to and pray earnestly for those who were the liars. God help us during these turbulent days!
